A great tradition with a future

It all began in 1928, over 80 years ago and in quite a small way. Elisabeth Wegeli bought two waffle irons from her neighbour. Today, many years later, Gottlieber Hüppen are known as a unique delicacy far beyond the country’s borders. For many lovers of chocolate and specialities Gottlieber Hüppen are culinary delicacies and are part of Switzerland’s culinary heritage. The Gottlieber Hüppen have been recommended over the generations and are still popular and sought-after among young and old alike.

Gottlieben (www.gottlieben.ch) is an idyllic town located directly on the water, between Lake Constance and Lake Untersee, on the Swiss side of the border.

In the Hüppen bakery, lying right on the Seerhein in Gottlieben, the wafer-thin hot crêpes, no thicker than 0.7 mm, are still baked individually and rolled out individually like tobacco leaves. The process is painstaking and precise, as if they were being rolled by hand. This is in contrast to the many highly industrially Hüppen produced worldwide. Then the Gottlieber Hüppen are filled individually with delicate, creamy chocolate cream and individually packed, piece by piece. All fillings, for which only the best ingredients are good enough, are blended and produced in Gottlieben.

Customers both at home and abroad value the long tradition and the very high quality. The demand for quality, regional products and Swissness is rising and is set to keep on rising. That is why Gottlieber Hüppen are a great tradition with a future.

In addition to its many other commitments to associations, sports clubs and social and cultural initiatives and events Gottlieber Spezialitäten AG also campaigns for its own canton; from 2009 Gottlieber Hüppen will be partners of Thurgau Tourismus.
